Ever
wonder what that noise in your hydraulic system is? Here are a few
possibilities to consider:
- Cavitation.
Check the pump for clogged or blocked air vents and intake lines.
Follow manufacturer's recommended viscosity for the pump.
- Dirty
Filter. Periodically check all filters. Also match filter
capacity to the pump.
- Pump
is exceeding maximum rpm.
- System
has air in it. Tighten suction line fittings to prevent
air intake. Keep the reservoir full.( A tank is full at 90%
of capacity)
- Pump
parts are loose or worn.
- Fluid
is contaminated. Check the quality of the fluid in your
system. If water is present, oil is dirty, or if the oil smells
burnt, drain and flush. Refill with new hydraulic oil.
- Vanes,
valves or pistons are stuck. Use solvent to clean pump,
as old fluid may gum up and cause sticking.
- Misalignment
between pump & prime mover.
- Hose
and fittings undersized. Flow restriction increases fluid
velocity and creates noise. It may also cause over heating.
